GLOBAL – Production on the third season of The Witcher has been ‘paused due to COVID and we will be up and running as soon as it is safe to do so,’ Netflix said Wednesday. The show paused production ‘amid unconfirmed online rumors that star Henry Cavill tested positive for the virus,’ according to.

The Emmy-nominated series, which is made in the U.K., previously had to shut down production of the show’s second season in 2020 due to COVID-19.

No premiere date has been announced for the third season of the show, which also features Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, Mimi Ndiweni and Eamon Farren.

The show has been popular for Netflix since its debut in 2019, as its spawned spin-offs including the 2021 animated movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, as well as a prequel series in the works titled The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Cavill, who plays Geralt of Rivia on the show, was the subject of speculation last week during San Diego Comic-Con, when Dwayne Johnson said in a panel for Black Adam that another actor could play Superman in upcoming DC films.

Johnson later said that Cavill ‘is a buddy’ and ‘a phenomenal Superman.

‘He is a phenomenal Superman and Henry Cavill is the Superman of our generation with respect to the other Supermans of the past. Every time I see him, we have some tequila and I say, “This guy is Superman.”‘

The latest BA.5 variant of COVID-19 has been classified as highly contagious, as the AP reported that it accounts for 82 percent of active cases in the United States, with the variant BA.4 making up 13 percent of the cases.
