On Sunday, Canadian Minister of International Development Harjit Sajan and Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met to talk about measures to improve bilateral ties as well as other issues of relevance.

Shoukry emphasized the significant improvement in bilateral ties between the two nations over the past few years, which is reflected in their shared eagerness to consult on a wide range of regional and global issues of shared interest.

Within the framework of the UN’s sustainable development objectives, the two sides also highlighted the significance of intensifying collaboration between their nations in a variety of development domains, particularly in the health, rural development, women’s empowerment, and capacity-building sectors (SDGs).

Shoukry also expressed Egypt’s desire to boost the number of ongoing projects and proxy Canadian investments in the nation.

Additionally, Shoukry highlighted the most recent advancements concerning Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh this November in his capacity as the President Designate of the upcoming UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27).

He emphasized that Egypt’s goal for the COP27 is to move from making promises to actually putting them into practice on the ground and to build on the momentum created by the COP26 to mobilize support for international climate action. He also expressed his desire to improve cooperation in the fields of energy and the environment.
