PAKISTAN (CU)_ Shaheen Afridi is one of Pakistan’s best fast bowlers. He made his debut in the year 2018 and since then has earned immense recognition as an asset to Pakistan with his swift and nifty stance on the field. His performance so far has been impressive with scaringly high potential for a bright future.

Despite Afridi’s ability to conquer the field, he has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 for sustaining a severe injury. According to his medical reports and scans, he has been advised to rest for a minimum of 4-6 weeks after suffering an injury in the ligament of his right knee when fielding during the first Test Match against Sri Lanka in Galle, held recently.

In addition to refraining his participation from the Asia Cup, the left-arm speedster will also not participate for the home series against England.

Dr. Najeebullah Soomro, Chief Medical Officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board shares his take on the matter. He says, “I have spoken with Shaheen and he is understandably upset with the news, but he is a brave young man who has vowed to come back strongly to serve his country and team. Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear he will require more time and is likely to return to competitive cricket in October.”

22 year old right arm pacer Mohammad Hasnain will reportedly replace Afridi for the Asia Cup, according to the PCB reports of 22nd August 2022.

The national team of Pakistan therefore all set to face their arch-rivals, team India on the 28th of August 2022 at the tournament-opener held at the Dubai International Stadium, brewing nervous energy, excitement and enthusiasm amongst cricket fans from all over the world.
