Airbnb launches “anti-party technology” in Canada

CANADA (CU)_ Airbnb is set to launch a technology that will prevent occupants from hosting parties in both the US and Canada and measure that could be extended worldwide and had implemented a similar program in Australia.

Airbnb stated that a temporary ban was successful, and they we are officially marking the ban as policy. When the company, launched the Neighborhood Support Line in a number of jurisdictions as a direct channel of communication for neighbors to contact them with any complaints they saw it as an opportunity to assist them bring in the prohibition on party houses.

They further stated that there is a direct link between our implementation of the policy in August 2020 and a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports. Airbnb claims the policy has been well received by their Host community and they have received positive feedback from community leaders and elected officials.

The hosting of parties has quite a few different policies across countries and different cities where some jurisdictions prohibit no loud music after 10pm and in some towns permission is needed to host a party from the authorities.

Disturbing parties are set to continue to be banned, including open-invite gatherings according to Airbnb, which also states the decision was made based on feedback from the longstanding and trusted members of their global Host partners, and is set to come in to effect in the months ahead.

In 2021, over 6,600 guests were suspended from Airbnb for attempting to violate our party ban. The company stated that the new and long-term policy was enacted to help encourage and support community safety.

The pandemic saw many industries particularly the travel industry take a hit due to travel restrictions and saw many small businesses particularly those engaged in the hospitality and tourism industry such as hotels and restaurant’s shut down. Airbnb also saw decline in business however being a larger corporation they managed to survive.
