EU ambassadors to Tanzania inaugurate 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence!

Tanzania (Commonwealth Union)_In Tanzania, Team Europe, in collaboration with local and global partners, pushes for action to prevent and combat femicide and gender based violence by providing assistance for a variety of projects at the national, regional, and local levels, including GBV prevention and response awareness-raising efforts. The 16 Days of Activism was launched at the Leaders Club grounds in Tanzania by the national campaign’s coordinator WiLDAF, an NGO providing legal service to women and children, along with the Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups. 

His Excellency Manfredo Fanti, Ambassador of the European Union, as well as the Ambassadors of EU Member States including H. E. Nabil Hajlaoui of France; H. E. Peter Hughebaert of Belgium; H. E. Theresa Zitting of Finland; H. E. Regine Hess of Germany; H. E. Mary O’Neill of Ireland; H. E. Marco Lombardi of Italy; Deputy Ambassador Mr. Job Runhaar of the Netherlands; H. E. Francisca María Pedrós Carretero of Spain; Ms. Lena Hothes, Counsellor of Denmark; and Mr. Joakim Ladeborn, Head of Politics, Trade and Promotion of Sweden, will organize a media conference for Tanzanian media at the French Residence to highlight the measures that Team Europe has undertaken for this year’s 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence (GBV). 

The EU delegation, in partnership with government partners, non-profit organizations, community agencies and activists, will conduct a number of nationwide public events. The theme of the annual worldwide campaign, which takes place from November 25 to December 10, 2022, is ‘Take Action to Prevent Femicide against Women’. The objective of the campaign is to create awareness about gender-based violence and urge for global initiatives and advocacy efforts to eradicate violence against women and girls. 

During the campaign, the embassies of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden, as well as the EU delegation, will team up with government partners, non-governmental organizations, policy-makers, community groups, and advocates to arrange a number of public events throughout the country. Major events include workshops and expert dialogues, an anti-GBV campaign in 12 places in Tanzania with the objective of engaging men and boys, the Shule Salama tour to many schools, an anti-GBV award event, and gathering a diverse array of voices, activists, partners, and decision-makers to put an end to GBV.
