Bangladesh (Commonwealth Union)_According to the latest report from a Canadian online publication, Bangladesh’s economy has risen to the 35th largest in the world. Previously, the IMF disclosed that Bangladesh and India were the only two South Asian nations among the 50 biggest economies in the world. Accordingly, the publication released a paper titled, “The Top Heavy Global Economy” on December 29, 2022, which used IMF data. The report has ranked nations according to their gross domestic product (GDP).

According to renowned economist Dr. Atiur Rahman, Bangladesh’s economy has achieved this level as a result of its macroeconomic stability and GDP growth of over six percent for the past 12 to 13 years. During a media interview, he stated that a Canadian journal had published an accurate assessment of Bangladesh and that worldwide economists are studying the country’s sustained progress, which it achieved despite the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to Dr. Atiur, Bangladesh’s economy will emerge as the twenty-eighth biggest by 2030, with a $1 trillion economic volume by 2025. He stated that the nation must now prioritize the development of talented human resources, strong governance, and solid macroeconomic management. He said, “Bangladesh expended around 12 percent of its total budget on infrastructure development during the last 13 years, which contributed to mega projects including the Padma Bridge, Metro Rail, Rapid Mass Transit, Karnaphuli Tunnel, and the development of 100 economic zones”. Hence, urban and rural communities are seeing strong economic growth.

According to the research, India has risen to the fifth position in the global economy. Previously, it occupied the sixth place. With a gross domestic product of $3.46 trillion in 2022, India has surpassed the United Kingdom to reach fifth place. Further, the United States, China, Japan, and Germany occupy the first, second, third, and fourth positions on the list, respectively. The next five nations on the list of the world’s 10 greatest economies are the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Russia, and Italy. According to the research, the two significant events that occurred in the world in 2022 were the following. The global population has surpassed 8 billion individuals, and the size of the global economy has surpassed $100 trillion, reaching $101.56 trillion.
