At the recently held Golden Globe Awards, Telugu song “Naatu Naatu” won best original song. This is a historical feat as it was the first ever for India, at the Golden Globes.

The song has been composed by MM Keeravani, a popular music director, while the lyrics were supplied by Kala Bhairavi and Rahul Sipligunj. The song was part of Filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster “RRR”, which was also his first project after Bahubali 2 which was another groundbreaking film.

Naatu Naatu was one nomination alongside Taylor Swift’s “Carolina” from “Where The Crawdads Sing”, “Ciao Papa”, “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga and Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Among such huge nominations, Naatu Naatu emerged victorious, bagging the award for best original song at the Golden Globes 2023. Keeravaani graciously accepted the honour at the event, and in his acceptance speech, he expressed his gratitude to the entire team, and especially to N.T Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan for their power packed performance on the song.

Keeravaani was officially congratulated by the entire team of RRR, and then thousands across the globe on the success of his song ‘Naatu Naatu’.

RRR, as a legendary film by the legendary filmmaker Rajamouli was also nominated under the category of ‘Best Non-English Language Film”. The release of RRR was much anticipated as it was Rajamouli’s first after the very successful Bahubali 2. As such, RRR was released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam in early 2022, and was received well world-wide, creating massive hype in multiple countries including Japan and the United States.

The success of Naatu Naatu on such a huge international platform marks a historic occasion for India as this is the first time ever that an Indian song has received the award. It is a milestone to celebrate, widening exposure for Indian art globally.
