South Africa ( Commonwealth Union ) _ There are now six confirmed cases of cholera throughout the nation, according to the Department of Health. The patient, a 19-year-old lady who resides in the Emandleni informal community in Benoni, Gauteng, is the patient, according to the department. During contact tracing and social mobilisation efforts that contacted over 1,160 people, the outbreak response team located the patient. According to Foster Mohale, a spokesman for the health department, the patient was one of two patients who had cholera-related symptoms and were sent to the hospital for testing.

Mohale further reiterated that there is no need for public panicking , although the department was worried about the increase in cholera cases. He added that the disease is treatable and urged anyone  experiencing cholera symptoms to go to the nearest medical facility, if they had previously travelled domestically or internationally.

Last week, Joe Phaahla, the health minister, revealed that a 24-year-old man from Emandleni had passed away  only a few days after presenting with profuse watery diarrhea. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases describes cholera as a bacterial diarrheal disease. During a meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet issued a statement warning people to watch out for symptoms like diarrhoea, dehydration, vomiting, and general weakness.

The general public is urged to drunk no only boiled water, eat only properly cook food, and practice basic hygiene by washing their hands with soap and water to prevent transmission, which is primarily spread by contaminated water or contaminated food. Everyone who exhibits cholera-like symptoms, regardless of previous domestic or overseas travel, must contact the closest medical facility right once. According to Mohale, the department has not yet identified a local source for cholera transmission in the nation. However he cautioned against drinking or cooking with untreated water from rivers or dams and urged people to practise good hand hygiene.
