Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – British PM Rishi Sunak revealed in a statement that his moves to end the boat crisis in the UK is meeting its end desire. The boat issue is a contentious issue in the UK with many different political parties holding many different views, however most Brits shown no significant opposition towards legal migration from overseas but have largely opposed illegal boat crossings as most of the boat crossings have been from countries that are not at war or facing no crisis hence do not qualify in the refugee status.

Reports of large numbers of boat crossing being pushed by criminal gangs together with many of them being housed in hotels has further propped up opposition towards illegal migration. This has prompted the government to re-evaluate measures taken so far with need for adjustments.

Sunak recently announced in a statement that the boat plan has started to work with boat arrivals to the UK being reduced by 20 percent so far in 2023.

According to the PMs statement it was the 1st instance since the small boat crisis emerged, where the arrivals have been reduced, which is not occurring across Europe where they have risen up by 30 percent.

Sunak set out the march ahead that is a key element, for 1 of his 5 priorities, on a visit to Dover.

The PM further elaborated on the partnership with the Albanian government and how boat arrivals have reduced by 90 percent year-on-year sending back over 1,800 illegal migrants as well as criminals from Albania.

The PMs statement further indicated that there was an elevation in the number of illegal working raids by over 50 percent with the doubling of arrests.

The legacy asylum backlog was reduced to roughly a 5th since December and they are on track to reach the target to clear this by the end of 2023 according to the PM.
