Global (Commonwealth Union) – June is a month dedicated to the appreciation for the dairy industry as it marks the celebration of National Dairy Month. This annual observance provides an opportunity to recognize the essential role of dairy products in our diets and acknowledge the hard work of dairy farmers. From creamy milk to luscious cheese and yogurt, dairy products offer a plethora of nutritional benefits, making them a vital part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

National Dairy Month originated in the United States in 1937 as a measure to enhance dairy consumption and support dairy farmers during peak milk production season. Since then, it has become an annual tradition that has spread beyond borders, highlighting the importance of dairy across the globe. Today, National Dairy Month serves as a platform to educate the public about the nutritional value of dairy products and the dedication of farmers who work tirelessly to provide us with this staple food group.

Dairy products offer an array of nutrients essential for maintaining good health. Milk, for instance, is an excellent source of calcium, which is vital for building and maintaining strong bones and teeth. It also provides high-quality protein, and B12, potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium. These nutrients work together to support overall bone health, and muscle function, and promote optimal growth and development.

Yogurt, another beloved dairy product, offers a creamy and nutritious option that is enjoyed both as a snack and as an ingredient in various recipes. Packed with probiotics, calcium, and protein, yogurt supports gut health, aids digestion, and contributes to a strong immune system.

National Dairy Month is an occasion to recognize and appreciate the efforts of dairy farmers who work diligently to meet the demand for dairy products while prioritizing animal welfare and sustainable farming practices. In recent years extreme measures from authorities in certain countries impacted farmers, it also serves as a time to raise awareness of the challenges dairy farmers face and stand with them.
