Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – British space specialists are set to combine their expertise with counterparts from across the globe in a collaborative effort aimed at pushing the boundaries of cutting-edge technology and pushing forward international space capabilities forward.

The UK Space Agency has shown the selected recipients for the initial phase of its £20 million International Bilateral Fund. This fund will facilitate partnerships between UK organizations and entities in countries including the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, India, Singapore, and South Africa. These collaborations will serve to advance space exploration and stimulate investments in novel technologies.

The International Bilateral Fund marks the agency’s inaugural initiative solely dedicated to fostering and reinforcing international relationships, all in support of the UK’s ambitions within the realm of space.

The array of projects under this fund’s purview is diverse. Some projects will concentrate on nurturing these intercontinental partnerships to unlock future economic prospects for the UK, while others will focus directly on scientific missions and technologies holding strong potential for commercialization. From employing superconductors for spacecraft control to addressing challenges in space traffic management and enhancing satellite launch vehicles, the assortment of projects encapsulates the entire spectrum of the space sector’s capabilities.

Dr Paul Bate, Chief Executive of the UK Space Agency says “Working with other space agencies and organisations across the globe through our International Bilateral Fund allows us to draw on skills that enhance our homegrown expertise and capabilities, drive up investment in the UK, and support world-class science and discovery.”

A collaborative endeavor, spearheaded by UK-based Vertical Future, is poised to join forces with Axiom Space, Saber Astronautics, Cambridge University, and the University of Adelaide. This collaboration aims to initiate the creation of an advanced autonomous controlled environment dedicated to fostering plant growth. The primary objective of this endeavor is to provide essential support for space missions.
