In a recent development, China has welcomed Australia’s decision to conclude the security review concerning the Darwin port program, emphasizing the importance of dialogue in resolving bilateral trade disputes. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed its approval during a regular press conference held on Tuesday.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acknowledged Australia’s announcement that it has finalized the review pertaining to the lease of the Port of Darwin, and has chosen not to alter or revoke the existing lease. The leasing contract, valued at A$506 million ($393 million) and spanning 99 years, was secured in 2015 between the Chinese company Landbridge Group and the Northern Territory government of Australia.

China expressed hope that Australia will continue to provide a conducive environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and conduct operations within the nation. This statement underscores China’s interest in maintaining robust economic ties with Australia.

Notably, certain Australian political figures, including former Prime Minister Scott Morrison, have raised concerns regarding this cooperation, particularly in light of the United States’ stringent stance towards China.

Regarding the disputes involving wine and wind towers, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced on Sunday that consensus has been reached under the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO) for their resolution. China remains committed to addressing concerns through constructive dialogue and consultation, with the aim of fostering mutual understanding and bolstering bilateral relations.

China’s invitation to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to attend the 6th China International Import Expo in Shanghai from November 5 to 10 further signifies a potential thawing and improvement in bilateral relations. This development showcases the deep-rooted business connections between Australia and China, which is the world’s second-largest consumer market.

Both nations recognize the significance of their partnership as vital trading partners and express their willingness to continue working together through dialogue and consultation. This collaborative approach aims to ensure the stable and healthy growth of bilateral economic and trade relations, echoing a shared commitment to mutual prosperity.
