a GH¢6.2 million (US$1.02 million) shoe manufacturing facility to the district of Akuapem North District, in Eastern Ghana, afflicted by poverty, lack of healthcare and education facilities and poor infrastructure. Shoe Fabriek Ltd is capable of manufacturing 800 pairs of high-quality shoes, including school shoes, security boots and casual shoes for men and women each day, and is expected to assist in minimising rural-urban migration in the region. According to promoters of the initiative, the project will create nearly 150 jobs for people in the district, which is a key objective of the 1D1F Initiative.

During the event on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude towards those who were involved in the project to support his administration’s  industrial transformation agenda and he called on the workers in the district to put their best foot forward to ensure sustainable growth of the company. He also encouraged schools and other institutions to promote these locally manufactured products such as those which will produced in the factory.

Through the 1D1F initiative, the NPP has been seeking to tackle the youth unemployment crisis in Ghana by attracting private sector investments to rural districts in the country. Recently, the Ghanaian President also visited the village of Nkurakan, in the Yilo Krobo Municipal District, to supervise the reconstruction of the Nkurakan – Adukrom – Trom junction road, which was commissioned to the Messrs. General Construction & Development company in December last year. The government expects the project, once completed, would reduce travelling time for motorists and pedestrians, as well as minimise vehicle operating costs and strengthen transportation of goods and services in the region.
