Adani Group prepares to ship first coal cargo from Australia’s most controversial mine

ELGIN, Queensland (CU)_Just over a decade ago, when Adani Group set out to construct a new thermal coal mine in Queensland, the company envisioned producing 60 million tonnes of coal per year. However, it shrank to an annual output of 10 million tonne in 2018, as a result of funding difficulties caused by a prolonged ‘Stop Adani’ campaign by environmental groups which scared of lenders, insures and several major engineering firms.
