Islamabad, Pakistan (CU)_ According to the Foreign Office statement released on Sunday, an Afghan delegation headed by Hezb-e-Wahdat-e Islami Chief Ustad Karim Khalili will arrive in Islamabad today for a three-day visit to Pakistan. The Foreign Office announced that Ustad Karim Khalili will have a conference with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Asad Qaiser – Speaker of the National Assembly, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and other prominent leaders of the country.

The FO spoke about the Afghan leader’s purpose of visit to Pakistan. It said, “The visit of Ustad Karim Khalili is part of Pakistan’s ongoing policy to reach out to political leadership in Afghanistan to forge a common understanding on the Afghan peace process and deepen people-to-people linkages”.

While discussing the visit, the FO said that the fraternal relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan are profoundly rooted in “shared history, faith, culture, values and traditions”. The FO further spoke about Pakistan’s concerns over Afghan people. It said, “Pakistan fully supports all efforts for peace, stability and prosperity of the Afghan people”.

Pakistan assured its support through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process for an “inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political solution” to the conflict in Afghanistan. The Afghan leader visited Pakistan following the discussion between the Afghan Taliban and the government led by Ashraf Ghani resumed last week.

In an effort to end the battle and find a political path for the country, Afghan negotiators restarted discussions with the Taliban, following an increase in violence across Afghanistan threatened peace prospects. In the midst of increasing uncertainty about a US-Taliban peace agreement brokered by outgoing President Donald Trump, the discussions are continuing.
