AFRICA ( commonwealth Union ) _ As the African Union’s nutrition champion, His Majesty King Letsie III asserts that one of the tactics African nations must employ is cooperation in the fight against hunger, stunting, and malnutrition.
This was said by His Majesty on Friday in Maseru at the conclusion of the two-day High-Level Dialogue on Nutrition Funding. Speaking at the event, His Majesty emphasized the importance of widespread leadership involvement in order to achieve the 202 goals for ending hunger and improving nutrition in African nations.
He claimed that the African leaders’ participation in the dialogue demonstrates their genuine commitment to putting an end to hunger and starvation in their various nations.The event, according to His Majesty, will give all pertinent parties the chance to participate and offer suggestions on how the proposed strategies to end hunger and starvation can be effectively carried out.
However, he demonstrated the need for long-term and reliable financial assistance that will contribute to the eradication of hunger and starvation in African nations.
Speaking in her own right, the UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Amanda Khozi Mukwashi, noted that the timing of this conversation is ideal given the many challenges the world is currently facing, such as the rising expense of living.
She stated that it is the duty of African officials to make decisions about the future and growth of their nations, including how to improve nutrition on a national level.
According to her, Africa must first look within itself to produce funds and establish the fiscal latitude needed to support its development plan, which includes promoting nutrition and developing sustainable food systems that will increase community resilience and well-being.
The conflicts over climate change between Russia and Ukraine have been recognized as issues that interfere with food security, particularly in the most vulnerable households, according to the FAO Resident Coordinator, Dr. David Phiri. He also praised the actions taken by the members of the African Union to guarantee food security.
Her Majesty Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso, the Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, international organizations, development partners, including African parliamentarians, some United Nations agencies, finance ministers from Cost of Hunger countries, regional economic communities, and the private sector, graced the event.
