The survey canvassed the perspectives of 4,000 marketing and creative leaders from various corners of the globe, painting a vivid picture of the evolving AI narrative.

Canva, the Sydney-based unicorn, renowned for its AI-powered image generation, text creation, and translation services, unveiled some intriguing findings. Surprisingly, a whopping 97% of respondents across nine nations, including the US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, India, and Australia, expressed comfort in adopting AI. Among them, an impressive 80% hailed AI for its time-saving prowess, liberating them from the clutches of mundane tasks.

In a visionary glimpse into the future, nearly half (49%) believed that AI would surpass human proficiency in developing imagery within the next five years. This forecasted shift has profound implications for the creative industry, promising an era of transformative innovation.

Australia emerges as a beacon of innovation, with 77% of Australian respondents attesting to the enhanced creativity catalyzed by generative AI. This figure eclipsed the global average of 69%, affirming Australia’s pioneering stance in leveraging this technology to unlock new realms of creativity.

The Canva report acknowledges this concern, revealing that 17% of respondents globally worry about stifling originality. Australians, known for their resilience and adaptability, appear less daunted by the rapid pace of generative AI development. A mere 55% expressed feeling overwhelmed, in contrast to the global average of 65%. This indicates a measured approach to embracing this transformative technology, rather than hastily viewing it as a competitive imperative.

Furthermore, while 54% of respondents worldwide felt pressured to keep abreast of the swiftly evolving landscape, only 41% of Australians shared this sentiment. This suggests a measured approach, signaling that Australians value a holistic understanding of generative AI’s potential before diving headlong into adoption.

Yet, as the wheels of innovation turn, concerns about data privacy and security have begun to take center stage. Globally, three-quarters of businesses voiced apprehension about how generative AI interfaces with customer, company, and personal data. In Australia, however, only half of the firms currently employing generative AI have firmly established data privacy guidelines, trailing slightly behind the global average of 55%. Surprisingly, the US lags even further in this regard, emphasizing the need for comprehensive regulatory frameworks to catch up with the rapid pace of technological advancement.

In the near future, a potential shift may be on the horizon, as the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources gears up to deliver its highly anticipated report on the responsible use of AI.
