Aviation and Airlines (Commonwealth Union) _ Air Canada’s Toronto to New Delhi flight, AC42, faced disruptions when the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft had to divert to Baku, Azerbaijan. The diversion occurred almost 12 hours into the flight, with the reason cited as an indication related to fuel pressure in one engine. The airline is arranging an alternate aircraft to transport the 300 stranded passengers to their destination. The diverted aircraft, registered as C-FIVK, is nearly 16 years old. The incident follows a recent disruption in September when an Air Canada plane had to return to Delhi due to a terrain warning during the Delhi-Toronto service. The airline faced logistical challenges in diverting the long-haul international flight, impacting passengers, including infants, elderly individuals, and cancer patients.

Air Canada operates the Toronto to New Delhi route using its Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, known as Flight AC42. The daily scheduled flight has a duration of almost 14 and a half hours. On October 21st, the flight took off from Toronto Pearson International Airport but decided to divert to Baku when the pilots received an indication related to fuel pressure in one engine. The airline assured that the diversion was a precautionary measure.

The Boeing 777-200LR involved in the incident, registered as C-FIVK, is approximately 16 years old. Air Canada plans to arrange an alternate aircraft to transport the stranded passengers from Baku to New Delhi. However, logistical challenges arise when diverting long-haul international flights, impacting passengers who have spent nearly 12 hours on the plane.

This disruption adds to Air Canada’s recent incidents on the Delhi-Toronto route, including the September incident where a terrain warning led to the plane returning to Delhi. The challenges faced by passengers in Baku include infants, elderly individuals, and cancer patients, prompting concerns and communication on social media platforms. The airline, through its responses on Twitter, indicates that it is monitoring the situation and working towards resolving the logistical and passenger challenges arising from the diversion. The incident underscores the complexities and considerations involved in managing long-haul international flights, particularly when unexpected situations arise during the journey.
