Air India to commence flights from Kochi to Doha this month

India (Commonwealth Union) _ Air India is gearing up to launch non-stop flights between Kochi, Kerala, and Doha, Qatar, commencing on October 23rd. This strategic move is part of the airline’s initiative to bolster connectivity within India and across neighbouring countries. Kochi, a key financial and commercial centre in the state of Kerala, has experienced substantial industrial growth, particularly in its trade relations with the Middle East, including Qatar. The introduction of daily services aims to reinforce existing economic ties and offer expanded travel options for both business and leisure travellers. The airline plans to operate the route with Airbus A320neo aircraft and has already opened bookings for the upcoming service.

This development is a significant step in Air India’s expansion plans following its privatization and acquisition by the Tata Group. The group, comprising Air India, Air India Express, and AirAsia India, has been experiencing notable growth. In February, a substantial order for 470 Airbus and Boeing aircraft was placed by the airline group to meet anticipated future air traffic demands.

The airline group’s vision includes the expansion of regional and international networks in the coming years. Recent additions to its fleet include the delivery of the first two Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, destined for Air India Express. Despite facing challenges related to pilot training and onboarding, with more than 600 pilots recruited since April, Air India is making concerted efforts in the right direction.

However, the Indian Aviation Regulatory Agency (DGCA) recently called for the suspension of all simulator training facilities in Mumbai and Hyderabad due to failed audits. Despite these hurdles, the airline is committed to ensuring its pilots maintain flying licenses through proper training and mandatory simulator checks.

In essence, Air India’s upcoming non-stop service between Kochi and Doha signifies a pivotal move to capitalize on the economic ties between these regions. The airline is actively working towards strengthening its position in the aviation sector, both regionally and internationally, as it continues to navigate challenges and pursue its growth trajectory under the ownership of the Tata Group.
