Amazon Luna will be available soon –software

Amazon is making it much easier for Prime subscribers to sign-up for its Luna cloud gaming service. However, it is only during Prime Day.

Amazon Luna was launched in September last year to rival against the growing number of game streaming services out there.

And access is only granted following requesting and receiving an invite. That changes during this year’s Prime Day event on June 21-22. Prime subscribers will be able the option to start a seven-day free trial for Luna, following which the $5.99 per month subscription charge kicks in for Luna+. This not only has the potential to increase the number of Luna subscribers significantly, but it’s also another tactic to increase the Amazon Prime subscriber base during Prime Day.

Incentive

As an extra incentive to try out the service, Amazon is offering a 30% discount on the Luna controller, which usually costs $69.99, from now until June 20.  According to PC Mag’s review, it’s an excellent gamepad with a dedicated Wi-Fi chip, a headphone jack and great build quality. It’s also possible to use it as a general purpose Bluetooth game controller, if a separate driver is installed.

Amazon Luna could be accessed on a Windows PC, Mac, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad, or select Android phones. If playing on a PC, you could opt to use a keyboard and mouse instead of a game controller. The one limiting factor is the internet speed, which requires to be at least 10Mbps for streaming games at up to 1080p. If it is to play at 4K resolution, then the minimum increases to 35Mbps, with 4K support coming soon for select titles. Luna has a growing library of games to play. However, there’s also a Ubisoft+ subscription option which incurs an extra $14.99 per month for access to over 100 Ubisoft titles.
