Uttar Pradesh, where Covishield was administered for the first dose, followed by Covaxin six weeks later. Dr. Sameer Bhati, a public health expert, explained that Covaxin comprises dead Covid virus that activates the immune system to build a security system against Covid, whereas Covishield is vector-based and injects weak common cold virus into the body which creates an immunity barrier to battle coronavirus.
The test subjects who were vaccinated with a combination of two vaccines showed a better safety and higher immunogenicity profile compared to those who were injected with only Covaxin or Covishield. The study findings support the idea that immunization with a combination of an adenovirus vector-based platform vaccine and an inactivated whole virus vaccine was not only safer but also generated higher immunogenicity.
