Sri Lanka (Commonwealth Union)_ High-ranking executives from the healthcare and pharmacies division of the Apollo Group embarked on a recent visit to Sri Lanka, engaging in discussions with top officials of the Board of Investment (BOI) to explore potential prospects within the healthcare sector, particularly in the realms of digital health and digital healthcare services.

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, a prominent Indian multinational Health Services conglomerate headquartered in Chennai, stands as the largest hospital group in India, boasting a network comprising 71 owned and managed hospitals. Beyond its hospital chain, the company operates pharmacies, diagnostic centers, telehealth clinics, and digital healthcare services through subsidiary entities. Dinesh Weerakkody, the Chairman of the Board of Investment and Chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, was an integral participant during the interaction with the visiting delegation from the Apollo Group.

Apollo maintains a longstanding association with the Sri Lankan healthcare sector. Previously, Apollo Proton Cancer Center (APCC) of India introduced the availability of Proton Therapy treatment for patients from Sri Lanka at its state-of-the-art facility in Chennai. At a press conference hosted at the Hilton Colombo Residences, APCC, the sole Proton Therapy Center in South Asia and the Middle East, highlighted the pivotal role of Proton Therapy in enhancing the outcomes of cancer treatment and the overall quality of survivorship. The center, accredited by JCI as India’s first Cancer hospital, showcased its recent accomplishment of conducting a complex treatment for a rare liver cancer case in a Sri Lankan patient.

Additionally, Apollo Hospitals Group has also introduced a dedicated helpline number in Sri Lanka, bridging patients and physicians to Med Connect representatives, thereby providing seamless access to Apollo Hospitals’ extensive repository of medical resources. This strategic initiative was announced by Sri Lankan Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. Dr. Nilmini Withana, Representative of Apollo Hospitals Sri Lanka, emphasized the helpline’s role in connecting the two nations and fostering enhanced accessibility for patients and healthcare practitioners. Furthermore, Dr. Withana highlighted the strong collaboration between Apollo and the Sri Lankan medical community, hinting at upcoming health awareness initiatives in the future.
