Apple, Nike, Coka-Cola push against forced labour in China

New York, USA (CWBN)_ Three global companies, Apple, Nike, Coka-Cola, are reportedly lobbying with members of Congress to push for a ban on any products manufactured through forced labour in Xinjiang, China.

The Xinjiang region is largely populated by a minority of up to 12 million Uighur Muslims who are being persecuted by the Chinese government. The group has reportedly been under surveillance and while arrests have also been recorded. The communist party has denied the allegations.

The bill has pushed through the House of Representatives with 406 votes in favour and 3 against. The Senate is due to make their decision in this regard in the coming days. It is expected that legislation will be passed within the month, reflecting US policy and support for the persecuted minority.
