Are multi vitamins good for dementia?

A new study shows, over a period of three years, to improve memory in older adults, a multi- vitamin or multi- mineral supplement should be taken daily.

              To slow age related memory decline, the findings could provide an inexpensive and easy way, if supported by future research.

               A study which involved more than 3,500 individuals over the age 60, randomly participants were assigned by researches, for three years to take a daily multivitamin supplement or an inactive placebo.

                 To assess their short-term memory, participants took an online cognitive test at home, at the beginning of the study and at the end of each year.

            By the end of the first year, both groups saw improvement in memory but a large improvement was seen for those who took the multivitamin daily.

             Espeland and his colleagues found that, individuals saw an improvement in their overall cognition, memory and executive function, when they took their multivitamin daily. as well as it helps people who has developed dementia during the study.

          According to new research shows that individuals who did transition from mild cognitive impairment to dementia, the drop [in overall cognition and executive function] would have been less if they were taking multivitamins daily.       

            Holland said, a multivitamin does not have the same quality and quantity of vitamins and minerals that you would in a board nutritious diet. But by daily multivitamin you can bridge the gap of some of those potential deficiencies.

               Researches said, a daily multivitamin will help individuals with cardiovascular disease.

  When individuals started the study, they were with worse memory performance, but by taking multivitamin for a year they saw a big difference, that their memory was similar to those without heart diseases.

                There are health benefits in multivitamins, when taken in conjunction with a healthy, balanced diet.

                    It is always advisable to consult your healthcare team, about adding a daily multivitamin to your health regimen to determine what is best for you.

                     Most commonly used supplements are multivitamins and multimineral, popularity have grown in the past few decades, however multivitamin contain certain nutrition that your body may not need.
