Are Skincare trends on Tik Tok reliable?.

The internet is full of unreliable advice which is already known, it’s also consisting, just as much good advice. Question is which is which?

One of the hottest topics in Tik Tok is skin care. When health is involved believing everything you watch is not advisable including your skin. A good method would be to cross check online advice with credible medical sources, such as aestheticians, doctors and other licensed healthcare professionals.

It is impossible to wade through all the internet’s advice to find its best gems, when you’re trying to achieve smooth, glowing, ageless skin.

Here are some Tik Tok tidbits that our healthcare professionals say are based in science- before trying, it’s better to read up well, since they’re not the correct fit for every type of skin.

Icing your face isn’t just for black eyes and bumps on your forehead. Tik Tok trend takes it back to basic, in a world of wacky wellness-related tips and tricks, that facial icing helps to reduce puffiness.

The low temps cause blood to rise beneath the surface of your skin, that is when you apply an ice pack to your face. This can tackle puffiness, reduce undereye bags and brightens your complexion.

Aesthetician Lori Scarso says, “after a hard day or a long night, it’s a temporary way to get a little wake-up for your skin”.

To keep water from evaporating from the surface of your skin, slugging, which is a night time routine that involves slathering a thin layer of petroleum jelly over your face to create a protective barrier, which helps to moisturize, protect and repair damage.

Dermatologist Amy Kassouf, MD said, that petroleum jelly is a simple and very occlusive ointment, but it doesn’t suit for every skin. Before applying it’s always better to check whether slugging is a good fit for your skin.

If you love to have luxuriously, fluffy eyebrows, use soap brows, that is when using soap as a leave-in product, which will help to make your eyebrows look fuller and more luxurious, explains Dermatologist Alok Vij, MD.

If you want to safely achieve this look, there are some rules that need to be followed, as soap that has its primary ingredient listed as glycerin. However, there may still be a risk of irritative or allergic reactions, it is always advisable to read up on soap brows before attempting to create them.

Washing your face twice or double cleansing is very common and Tiktokers swear by it. It is where an oil – based product is initially used, and then wash your face with a water-based cleanser. They may be helpful for individuals with oily skin, however, for most skin types, there may be more harm done than good.

Dermatologist Jane Wu, MD, warns irritation, dryness, and the breakdown of skin barrier, may be the result of Over washing. Which can eventually cause issues such as eczema and breakouts. There are other options to tackle oily skin, finding a cleanser that suits your specific need. For sensitive skin, Micellar water can be a good option. Foaming cleansers are great option for lifting dirt and oils from your skin.
