New luggage disinfection service launched at Singapore Changi Airport

-

Singapore (CU)_ Singapore Changi Airport has launched a new baggage disinfection service for visitors arriving at Terminal 3 as part of its ongoing efforts to improve passenger safety and regain trust in air travel following the Covid scandal. The service was established by dnata in collaboration with the Disinfect Group and Ecas4 Australia. The service ensures that the luggage of the passengers are disinfected easily and securely before they leave the airport.

A press statement released by dnata said, “Disinfect Group’s equipment is 100 per cent natural, non-toxic, bio-degradable and can effectively kill over 99.99 per cent of bacteria and pathogens, such as coronavirus, on all types of baggage”. Dieter Veulemans, the founder of Disinfect Group, said, “Our units add not only a layer of safety but also a level of reassurance to everyone on-site. Our product helps create a sense of safety, allowing customers to re-engage at various types of locations.”

According to dnata, the technology has been separately trialed and examined in private laboratories in countries such as Australia, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and has been found to be fully safe for both adults and children, with approvals similar to hospital grade disinfectant. As an inaugural price, services fees start at S$5 (US$3.71) per bag. In the second half of 2021, plans are ongoing to expand the service to other terminals and airports throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

The mist technology employs Ecas4 Australia’s electrolyzed water, which is made up of salt and water that has been activated by an electrical process and has been shown to be substantially more efficient than bleach while posing no danger to the skin, eyes, or respiratory system. Tony Amorico, Director of Ecas4 Australia, said, “Ecas4 Australia has worked with its partners to provide technological solutions that utilize our Electrolyzed Water solution to destroy pathogens and the coronavirus. We are keen to see this technology fast-tracked and provide an additional level of security for all environments and workplaces.”
