SYDNEY, Australia (CWBN)_The Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr. Geoffrey Shaw, said given the existing potential of Pakistan, Canberra wishes to further strengthen bilateral relations with its Asian counterpart, especially during the post-pandemic economic recovery.

The High Commissioner made these remarks during a virtual meeting held with Pakistani Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh yesterday (Dec 23).

Dr. Shaw noted that with a large population, diverse resources, and untapped potential for trade, Pakistan is at the heart of a regional market, and therefore, Canberra is keen to explore opportunities to enhance trade relations with Islamabad. He also expressed the interests of the Australian government to invest in the people of Pakistan, through aid programmes in sectors of health and education.

According to a statement issued by the Press Information Department of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan, the High Commissioner reiterated Australia’s commitment to continue to cooperate with Pakistan in its battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani Finance Minister extended his gratitude towards the Australian government and the people of Australia for the support extended towards the Asian country, and expressed his wishes to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries.
