 capitalise on this lucrative opportunity by setting up a facility in the 833ha Wilton International precinct, and has found itself in the middle of an industrial revolution. 

During his campaigns leading up to the 2019 election, Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised to “level up” the North of England through industrial strategy, infrastructure investment and social spending. Making good on this promise, in March this year, the government has confirmed Teesside as one of eight locations that will be designated as a “Freeport”, which means companies can avoid tariffs and other customs requirements, so long has the goods which are imported do not enter Britain, but are re-exported after processing. 

The announcement has been a great cause for celebration for local mayor Ben Houchen, who hopes to set up Europe’s second-largest chemicals cluster that would consist of companies which have embraced the idea of a net-zero carbon future. Accordingly, Peak Resources is expected to be a part of this post-Brexit revolution, as the company plans to ship in rare-earth concentrate from its Ngualla mine in Tanzania, which received the approval of the Tanzanian government last week. From Teesside Port, the rare-earth concentrate will be moved to Wilton to be refined into NdPr before being exported.
