Backing for AI in lowering…

Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – The government has announced a significant investment to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help industries reduce their carbon emissions. This investment of millions of pounds will support twelve different projects focused on “green” AI initiatives. These projects aim to make industries more environmentally friendly and increase the use of renewable energy sources, which is crucial for the UK’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

These initiatives cover a wide range of areas, from improving the efficiency of solar energy by using AI to predict the best times for energy generation, to using AI robots to monitor the health of crops and soil in order to make dairy farming more sustainable.

Interestingly, AI itself could also play a role in reducing its own carbon footprint. One of the projects is working on creating hardware that imitates the human brain, which would allow computers to use less power when performing AI tasks.

In addition to the initial investment, the government plans to offer an additional £2.25 million to support more AI innovations that specifically target emission reductions in the energy sectors. This comprehensive approach to using AI to cut carbon emissions showcases a commitment to utilizing advanced technology to combat climate change and move toward a more sustainable future.

This is a component of the government’s Net Zero Innovation Portfolio worth £1 billion, solidifying the UK’s leading role in both AI and the process of reducing carbon emissions.

Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance Lord Callanan says “We are unquestionably world-leading when it comes to advanced AI and our track record for decarbonisation.”

“This unique position means we must now push the boundaries in how this technology can enhance our rapidly-growing clean energy sector.”

The significant role of AI continues to play a significant role in a wide variety of aspects of every sector, however concerns over jobs losses remain a crucial area of concern for many.
