Hyderabad (Commonwealth Union)_ Nandamuri Balakrishna, a legendary Telugu actor, has been inducted into the Gold Edition of the World Book of Records (WBR), a well-known international organization based in London. This award recognizes his exceptional 50-year career as a leading actor in Indian cinema. Balakrishna is the first Telugu actor to get this global recognition, marking a watershed point in his illustrious career. Balakrishna, dubbed “Balayya” by fans, began his career in 1974 with Tatamma Kala and has since appeared in over 100 films ranging from action and drama to historical epics.

Some of his most notable works are Annadammula Anubandham, Kathanayakudu, Nippulanti Manishi, Veera Simha Reddy, and the award-winning Bhagavanth Kesari. Over the years, he has perpetuated his father’s famed legacy, N. T. Rama Rao (NTR), while simultaneously forging his own identity in Telugu cinema. Additionally, Balakrishna was awarded the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honors, in January 2025 for his contributions to film and public service. His film Bhagavanth Kesari won a National Award, establishing his status as a critically acclaimed and commercially successful actor.

Joy greeted the news of his entry into the World Book of Records. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu lauded the feat, describing it as a “historic moment” in Telugu film. Brahmani Nara, Balakrishna’s daughter, also sent an emotional letter, expressing her pride in her father’s “incredible journey” and calling him a “true force of nature.” In addition to his film career, Balakrishna has made a significant impact through his political and humanitarian efforts. As the MLA from Hindupur, he has won three consecutive terms and is credited with bringing major development to the constituency.

Additionally, he also serves as the Chairman of the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital, where he has spent over 15 years improving access to cancer care in India. The official World Book of Records citation, presented by CEO Santosh Shukla, describes Balakrishna’s contribution as “an inspiration to millions.” A special ceremony to mark the occasion was held in Hyderabad on August 30.
