Biden will go ahead with the impeachment trial for Donald Trump even if it means his work is to be delayed by it

It was reported that President Biden will be going through with the impeachment trial for trump. The impeachment will happen as trump was seen as inciting the insurrection against Capitol Hill which was attacked on the 6th of January by Trumps supporters.

There will be senators sworn in as jurors for the trial on Tuesday and Senator Patrick Leahy and Senetor president pro Tempore will preside over the trial.

The impeachment trial will begin on the 8th of February giving the trump legal team 2 weeks to prepare for it. This was the deal struck between senate majority leader Chuck Schumer and minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The chance is also given to trump via formal invitation to hand in a written response to the charges but as of right now it is not clear if trump will do so.

President Biden knows and accepts that this impeachment trial could ideally set him back when it comes to forming his government but claims that it would be worse for the country and his governance if the trial was not to happen.

Biden still has a few of his cabinet members that are not yet confirmed by the senate as well as his administration 1.9 trillion dollar Covid relief plan that is also not looking so good in the republican opposition.

Even though the democrats have managed to get control of the senate there still needs to be a 2/3rd majority vote to convict trump in accordance with the constitution. Biden claims that if trump had left 6 months before his term had ended things would have been different as he does not think the 17 republican lawmakers would vote to convict trump.
