HOLLYWOOD, USA (CWBN)_  The late Chadwick Boseman was named the “the Hero for the Ages” at this year’s MTV Movie and TV Awards: Greatest of All Time. The award show was held this Sunday (December 6) and was semi-virtual; the pre-recorded show mixed virtual and in-person segments, the latter of which was shot in a set where COVID-19 health and safety guidelines were followed.

The award is meant to honour a star “whose heroism on-screen was only surpassed by the true hero they were off-screen,” according to MTV. Boseman inspired many with his role as King T’Challa in Marvel’s franchise movie “Black Panther”, but his personality in real life is what made many people honour him when he passed away this August due to cancer.

Fellow Marvel stars Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. shared their experiences with him when they presented the award. Downey Jr stated that there was something different and special about Chadwick Boseman. “The second you first saw him on screen or had the opportunity to meet him in person, his energy and intensity was undeniable,” he said.

Cheadle said that each time Boseman stepped on the set, he inspired and influenced everyone there. “And with every role, he created a new legion of fans. He had an incredible power to unify people and their love for his work and their respect for him as a person. The way he lived his life united people behind a higher purpose, and that will be his legacy,” he added.

An alumnus of Howard University, Boseman began his career with TV shows like “Lincoln Heights” and “Persons Unknown”. He later got his breakthrough playing Jackie Robinson in the film “42”. Some of his other memorable roles include his performance as James Brown in “Get On Up” and Thurgood Marshall in “Marshall”.
