Mumbai, India (CU)_ Child actors have often demonstrated their spirit by taking on difficult roles in many movies, and having celebrated Children’s Day this month, have a look at some of the best Bollywood films worked by these young actors that address important issues. Check out these Bollywood flicks that use outstanding performances of  kids characters to bring attention to important subjects.

Stanley Ka Dabba

The 2011 comedy-drama was directed by Amole Gupte and the movie depicts the plight of children who lack any support or assistance in overcoming their poverty and neglect. The movie clearly portrayed the severity of child labour. Partho Gupte starred as Stanley Fernandes, a student who is treated partially by his Hindi instructor as he was unable to bring lunch to school. Partho later won a National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance in the film.

Bum Bum Bole

The film was directed by Priyadarshan and narrates the story of a 12-year-old boy named Darsheel Safary who is matured beyond his age due to his family’s poverty. As they manage their financial situation, the parents find it difficult to afford even a uniform or a pair of shoes for their kids. The film is an official version of the Iranian film Children Of Heavens, which won several awards.

Chillar Party

Nitesh Tiwari and Vikas Bahl directed the film which vividly captures the relationship between a group of kids and a stray dog. The youngsters meet an orphaned kid and his dog, and their affection for the four-legged motivates them to oppose the city’s cruel administrators, who intend to eradicate all strays. The film won the 2011 National Film Award for Best Children’s Film for bridging the built hierarchy between the fortunate and those who are denied of it.

The Blue Umbrella

The 2005 film follows the story of the eponymous novel by Ruskin Bond and teaches youngsters about compassion by showing them that even the most terrible person does not necessarily deserve judgment or harshness for his actions. Vishal Bhardwaj directed the film, which stars Shreya Sharma and Pankaj Kapur in prominent roles.

Anjali

The film, directed by Mani Ratnam, chronicles the journey of a dying mentally ill kid and the agony her family members go through. The film vividly depicts the parents’ struggles to cope with their awful predicament. Anjali won three National Film Awards and was India’s official submission to the 1991 Academy Awards.
