Brisbane Open 2024: Who will play beside Rafael Nadal?

-

Australia (Commonwealth) _ After a three-year absence, the Brisbane International, a top WTA and ATP event, returns to the Australian season of tennis.

The event will be held from December 31, 2024, to January 7, 2024, at the Queensland Tennis Centre in Tennyson, Brisbane, and will include a WTA 500 title for 48 women and an ATP 250 title for 32 men.

The 2024 Brisbane International has a lineup of nine Grand Slam champions, including Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Naomi Osaka, and Aryna Sabalenka.  The men’s field contains top-20 players including Holger Rune and Grigor Dimitrov, while the women’s competition includes eight top-20 players like Karolina Pliskova and Madison Keys.

The tournament’s return to Brisbane ends the tournament’s relocation to Adelaide from 2021 to 2023 because to the COVID-19 epidemic. The Brisbane International is expected to start off the 2024 tennis season in style, with an excellent assortment of talent and a competitive atmosphere.

Rafael Nadal and world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka will lead a stellar lineup at the Brisbane International 2024. After a nearly 12-month hiatus due to a hip injury, Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal will make his long-awaited comeback to tennis.

The 37-year-old’s most recent competitive match was a straight-set loss to Mackenzie McDonald at the 2023 Australian Open. It will be Nadal’s second visit to the Queensland Tennis Centre, having reached the tournament’s quarterfinals in 2017.

Brisbane will serve as the starting point for Nadal’s 2024 attack on the Australian Open, which he has won twice. Sabalenka is the primary draw for the WTA 500 tournament, while world no. 4 and Wimbledon 2022 champion Elena Rybakina will be a favorite for the championship.

Former grand slam champions Naomi Osaka, Victoria Azarenka, Sloane Stephens, Sophia Kenin, and Jelena Ostapenko have already confirmed their participation in the women’s field. The men’s event is an ATP 250 event including Nadal, world No. 8 Holger Rune, British superstar Andy Murray, and a strong group of Australians including Alexei Popyrin, Max Purcell, and Jordan Thompson.

Ben Shelton, a rising talent and US Open semi-finalist, will play, as will Grigor Dimitrov, a three-time major semi-finalist and past Brisbane International champion.

For professional tennis players, the period coming up to the end of the year, which is a holiday season for most people, really signals the start of the busiest season. The world’s best tennis players have arrived in Australia and are preparing in different locations ahead of the 2024 competitive season.

Naomi Osaka, the former world number one female tennis player, is practicing in Brisbane in preparation for the WTA 250 event, which will be held in the nearby eastern Australian city from December 31, 2023 to January 7, 2024. Aryna Sabalenka, the Australian Open winner, and Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion, will both compete in the competition.

Tennis players playing in the men’s division of the ATP 250 level competition in Brisbane include Holger Rune, Grigor Dimitrov, and Rafael Nadal, the Spanish tennis player with 22 Grand Slam championships.

On Wednesday afternoon, Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime rehearsed together in another location, Sydney. Angelique Kerber, the former world number one in women’s tennis, also practiced at the Ken Rosewall Arena.

Osaka, who has four Grand Slam championships, will retire from the WTA 500 Tokyo tournament in September 2022. Osaka returned to training three months after giving birth to Shai in July 2023 in order to satisfy her goal to compete again. The world’s 661st-ranked tennis player wants to compete again for her kid. Osaka expresses her excitement and nervousness as she prepares to participate in her first event in 16 months. The WTA 500 Tokyo tournament will begin on December 31 and conclude on January 7. Tickets for the Brisbane International may be purchased at Ticketmaster.
