British healthcare overwhelmed amid Covid spike

London, UK (CWBN)_ The National Health Service reported that over 41,000 new Covid-19 cases were and 357 fatalities were recorded, yesterday (28th Dec). Healthcare officials claim that the high infection rates were a “growing concern” as medical personnel and resources are stretched thin.

Medical Director of Public Health England, Yvonne Doyle, said that “Despite unprecedented levels of infection, there is hope on the horizon”, but urged the public to “continue to play our part in stopping the spread of the virus” until the vaccination campaign could be effectively concluded.

However, given that several services were suspended over the Christmas season, the actual figures remain uncertain.

While the NHS England claimed that the highest infection rates since April, at 20,426, Scotland and Wales are reporting a possibility of health services being overwhelmed over the coming days.

Adding to the concerns, as hospitals are also struggling to cover the backlog of non-urgent surgeries and procedures, which were postponed earlier this year.
