LONDON (CU)_Buckingham Palace broke its silence on Tuesday (9 March) over Megan and Harry’s tell-all TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, saying in a statement on behalf of the Queen that the revelations about a racist remark about the pair’s son are taken “very seriously ” and will be addressed privately.

In the two-hour show, which was aired in Britain on Monday, Meghan accused the royal family of raising concerns regarding how dark their son Archie’s skin might be. Meanwhile, Harry said that he felt trapped in his royal life and that his father, Prince Charles, had let him down.

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” Buckingham Palace said.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

The bombshell interview was watched by 12.4 million viewers in Britain and 17.1 million in the United States, and has proved divisive among the British public. Some in the UK believe it suggested the institution to be outdated and intolerant, while others decried it as a self-serving assault that neither the Queen nor her family deserved.

Earlier on Tuesday, during his visit to a COVID-19 vaccine pop-up clinic in London, a reporter asked Prince Charles what he thought of the interview, but he refused make any comment.

According to royal sources, the Queen, who has been in the throne for 69 years, had wanted to take some time and give it careful consideration before the Palace issued a response.

During the interview, the couple also discussed their torrid relationship with the British press, with Harry saying the royal family has an unhealthy silent agreement with the British tabloids. “There is a level of control by fear that has existed for generations,” he said.

Nevertheless, Royal supporters are of the view that Meghan, an American former actor, is a publicity seeker with an eye on Hollywood stardom.

She claimed that her son Archie was denied the title of prince because there were concerns within the royal family about “how dark his skin might be” when he’s born.

Although the pair declined to reveal who voiced such concerns, Winfrey later told CBS that Harry had said it was not the Queen nor her husband Prince Philip.
