Heart disease, an international health concern, is creation its existence in the Caribbean region, by an alarming upsurge in occurrence, predominantly among the younger demographic. This surge is mainly credited to lifestyle variations, including a fondness for processed foods, reduced physical activity, and amplified tobacco usage.

The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), in partnership with provincial partners, has launched enterprises such as the Caribbean Expanded Salt Initiative and the Six-Point Strategy Package to battle this mounting issue. These plans aim to decrease salt ingesting, address childhood obesity, and encourage heart-healthy activities, conferring to Executive Director at CARPHA Dr. Joy St. John.

World Heart Day, distinguished annually on the 29th of September, aids as a global reminder of the status of heart health. This year’s movement, Know Heart, Use Heart, highlights the importance of understanding our hearts.

The chief risk influences for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) comprise poor diet, tobacco use, physical inactivity, extreme alcohol consumption, high blood glucose levels, high blood pressure and obesity.
