Canadian dies at ‘Death Island’

-

A Canadian traveler died in Thailand after falling from a moving train traveling to “Death Island”. Ryan Joseph Ralph 24, was traveling with his British girlfriend Shona Morgan, 22, when he fell from the overnight train from Bangkok. Morgan had traveled to Thailand to be with her boyfriend, who had been roaming in the country for just over a month, to enjoy his birthday. The pair were traveling to Koh Tao Island in the south of Thailand at what time the tragedy struck, stated The Independent.

A few hours into the voyage, Ralph had left his girlfriend who was sleeping, and went for a cigarette at the far end of the carriage, several of which have no barriers or doors. As per The Independent, the visitor is alleged to have been wounded after falling off the train and being dragged briefly along the tracks.

Morgan stated that she raised the alarm when she awakened an hour later and found him missing. Approximately 200 policemen and rescuers then joined a search for the tourist. Police stated that the 24-year-old lost his balance while the train was moving, before dragging himself under to escape the wheels. However, he later died from blood loss, the outlet stated.

The two had been preparing to celebrate Ralph’s birthday at Koh Island, which has been named “Death Island” after the 2014 homicides of two British travelers. Ralph was found deceased, under a recently built stand at a station in the Ratchaburi area. Police said that he had severe injuries on both legs.

He had in his possession a wallet comprising numerous documents and Thai notes, Police Lieutenant Colonel Rathnont Kasemchaisit informed. From the initial examination, there were no traces of attack, he added.

A railway employee said he was stunned when he found the 24-year-old deceased. In the meantime, there have been a sequence of deaths on Thailand’s trains which are frequently blamed for deprived safety standards. In 2014, a 19-year-old passed away after falling from a train on the identical route, as per the outlet. In 2017, a 20-year-old British traveler ended up in intensive care after falling from a moving train on a similar voyage.
