Caribbean Leaders support  Regional digital integration.

At least 9 Caribbean countries have signed Port of Spain’s commitment to digital integration, the Caribbean tele communications union (CTU) reports. Two senior advisors in control of digital transformation, in addition to the 9 countries, have committed to the agreement. The discussion was addressed recently at the executive session on digital leadership in the Caribbean.

Trinidad and Tobago with the assistance of the inter-American development bank (IDP) and the CTU, discussed the importance of supporting social and economic growth in the Caribbean by furthering digital transformation (DT)

CTU stated the discussion enables senior DT policymakers, thought leaders and speakers to share and discuss on their DT efforts.

To establish a more cost-effective and resilient solution for storing data and management. The meeting justifies the consideration of a regional data center, along with the establishment of a regional    C-SIRT (computer society incident response team).

An agreement was made to enhance cyber security education awareness and training, to address the skills gap in the cybersecurity industry, along with building capacity, and safe online practices, informing people on the risks associated with cyber threats, and formulating critical infrastructure protection. (CIP)

While addressing concerns on data protection and privacy, a resolution to explore Cross- border recognition of digital IDs was initiated. To provide the government with tools and solutions needed for their digital transformation efforts was provided.

Among the 11 countries that signed the agreement were Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Curacao, Grenada, Suriname, Haiti, Dominica, Belize Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts-Nevis and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

To promote regional ICT integration and to speed up digital transformation, the CTU is eager and willing to help the digital agenda to move forward, stated Rodney Taylor. Secretary General of the CTU.

The creation of a regional–wide validation system for identification and credentials based on interoperable digital identities.
