The protein assists in identifying and signaling against the possibility lethal bacteria, Clostridium perfringens.
Clostridium perfringens is a gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium that is commonly found in the environment, including soil, sewage, and intestinal tracts of animals and humans. It is also known as the “cafeteria germ” due to its association with food poisoning outbreaks in institutions such as schools and prisons.
