$15 million together with a Medical Research Council exclusive license as well as intellectual property from Professor Jason Chin’s Laboratory a perfect combination to commence operations.
Professor Jason Chin stated that over the last 20 years, they created a cellular factory which could be predictably programed bringing about new polymers. he further emphasized that the applicability of the technology was broad and using the techniques they could program cells to initiate new molecules which included those from a significant class of drugs and to program cells that can bring about completely synthetic polymers containing the chemical linkages found in biodegradable plastics. Plastic has become one of the biggest environmental hazards as they can sometime last in the environment for centuries hence some countries have looked into banned there use and many more encouraging the switch to greener options. Professor Chin further stated that present time was ideal to commercialize these applications and said he was happy with the support and seed funding to establish the company and be inspired by nature and reimagine where life can lead to.
Professor Jason Chins has won several awards that include the Francis Crick Medal and Lecture (Royal Society, 2009), the Corday Morgan Prize (Royal Society of Chemistry, 2010), the Sackler International Prize in Physical Sciences (Tel Aviv University, 2019), and the Meyerhof Medal and Lecture (Max Planck Institute Heidelberg, 2021) amongst others.
