Customize learning using brain scan technology

There are diverse types of tests available to measure a person’s IQ or aptitude. In these assessments, a person can choose the correct answer because they have some familiarity about it or it could also be by pure luck, said NEMA AI Founder and CEO, Nidhi.

EMA AI is initially a health-edtech platform. It makes use of neuroscience and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the understanding of the innate capabilities of students. Built on the results, it recommends a tailored curriculum to advance learning outcomes.

One wears the EEG headphones and takes brain exercises. Here the questions of the exam even if one has responded them correctly, it doesn’t matter. The purpose is to recognize if a person has the default aptitude to understand the complexity of a specific topic. If not, what can be done to help them reach there, Nidhi said.

The assessment also indicates what kind of a learner one is and what method of instructions are more appropriate to them. A student becomes more relaxed, after figuring out if he should communicate through video, textual, or other means. It is about understanding the student and applying a resolution, said Nidhi.

The headphones use brain scan technology and is also intended to furnish to neurodivergent students. We detect brain patterns to recognize each individual’s strengths and weaknesses. The gaps are recognized in terms of memory retention, thinking level, focus and stress levels, etc. She said.

During her university years, Nidhi understood not everyone can transfer their needs verbally. She thought of this solution where one just takes up exercises and helpful insights can be gained from them. In the course of creating the product, she also noticed the effectiveness of an EEG based wheelchair, where a person just thinks and it moves accordingly.

Nidhi was part of the 130 candidates at the Schaeffler India Limited’s annual initiative – the Social Innovator Fellowship Programme. This enterprise, launched in association with Buddy4Study, is part of Schaeffler India’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) actions and aims to foster and support ground-breaking social innovations that address serious challenges in society.

Nidhi classified second in the 10 winners selected this year. The first prize went to Karthickjothi M and Yograj Joshua K for their novelty – Talk Ally. It is a glove device intended to translate sign language into spoken language, enabling communication for the deaf community.

Third in line were Avinash Yadav and Arpit Kshirsagar, with their creation Electica, an EV battery exchange service, enhancing the effectiveness of electric vehicle charging. Other inventions included LiqSure by Dr Sarjerao Doltade, a novel approach to manufacturing wastewater treatment using cavitation philosophies.

Agro Rangers by Siddhesh Sakore and Swapnali Dhawale is established to work with farmers to advance soil health and implement agroforestry models.
