Do clubs have to re –sign out-of-contract players?

-

Sportsman and sportswomen all come with contract. This so that they are given a chance to explore a few clubs and teams in their sports life before they make the decision to retire and join the club or team or get any offers to coach or to condition up and coming younger sports stars.

Most clubs are waiting for players to come in to the end of their contract so they can be bought or negotiated and have them play for their particular club or team. There is a full list of star players whose contracts that are coming to an end in 2021 and these players are looking to represent someone new in 2022.

Starting with Patrick Cripps – this 26 year old will be ending his contract with his current club and looking to sign with a new club on a long term basis. He was announced as joint vice-captain of Carlton, along with defender Sam Docherty. Cripps had a magnificent 2018, winning his second Carlton Best and Fairest, All Australian honors and finishing second in AFL MVP voting.

We then have Marcus Bontempelli – at 25 years this young star has done well. He captained the Bulldogs to the finals series for a relatively fruitful year, playing every single game. He was selected to represent Victoria in the State of Origin for Bushfire Relief Match, played in February 2020.

In third we have Harry McKay – He was drafted by Carlton with their second selection and tenth overall in the 2015 national draft. He has performed well and has a very good possibility of getting a long term contract with a good club for the 2022 season.

The question is not will they get signed but rather which club will pick them up first.
