Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ Actor Vijay’s latest cinematic offering, “Leo,” directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been rewriting box office records by achieving remarkable financial success. Released amid high anticipation on October 19, the film garnered an impressive sum of Rs 148.5 crore on its very first day and has since surpassed the Rs 400 crore mark. According to a recent media report, this Tamil language action film has collected a staggering $48.5 million globally, eclipsing the cumulative performance of “Killers of the Flower Moon,” a highly-anticipated film featuring the illustrious Leonardo DiCaprio.
This report indicates that “Leo” has achieved a cumulative worldwide total of $48.5 million in just four days. In contrast, Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon,” boasting a star-studded cast including DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro, trails closely behind with earnings of $44 million. Directed and written by Lokesh Kanagaraj, “Leo” also features prominent actors such as Trisha, Mysskin, Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Priya Anand, Mansoor Ali Khan, and other prominent stars.
This film marks Vijay’s second collaboration with Lokesh after their previous success with “Master.” “Leo” is part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Cinematic Universe, which includes other notable films like “Kaithi” (2019) and “Vikram” (2022). Following its release, “Leo” received a generally positive to mixed reception, with critics acknowledging Lokesh Kanagaraj’s deviation from conventional hero-centric film formats. Based on David Grann’s bestselling book of the same title, the film, scripted by Eric Roth and Scorsese, is set in 1920s Oklahoma and chronicles the serial murders of members of the oil-rich Osage Nation, a series of heinous crimes infamously known as the Reign of Terror. The film is set to premiere in Indian theaters on October 27.
