Follow these steps during your yoga practice

Mumbai, India (CU)_ Yoga has become a popular practice and a daily routine among many people since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yoga is frequently practised by people who do not enjoy going to the gym on a daily basis. They do yoga to get their daily dosage of physical activity. The best part of yoga is that you don’t use any special equipment to do yoga; all you need is some open space and a yoga mat. Yoga is beneficial not only to your physical health but also to your mental wellbeing. Here are some important dos and don’ts of yoga to remember the next time you practice yoga.

Do not overwork

Do not overstrain yourself, even if you are doing easy asanas. Every asana you execute does not have to be a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the easiest. Some may be as low as 8, 7 or even less. It also depends on your physical condition and daily lifestyle.

Weather

Extreme weather circumstances, such as when it is too hot, too cold, or too humid, are not conducive to yoga practice.

Keep your breath in check

Breathing is the most essential part of yoga. Unless instructed by a skilled professional, one should not hold their breath in an unnatural manner. If no particular instructions are given, breathe normally.

Avoid yoga after a meal

Yoga should not be done right after a meal. Give at least 2-3 hours for the food to get digested before beginning your practice.

No yoga when you are tired or ill

Many people mistakenly believe that yoga is a light exercise. This is wrong. Yoga can make you sweat heavily. As a result, avoid practicing yoga while you are weary or sick to prevent overworking of your body.

Take advice

Do not do yoga alone. This is not a rule, but a suggestion. It is best to have a guide or a partner nearby while practicing yoga, as they can guide you well. Simply reading and practicing yoga may be dangerous as it may result in muscle pull or other health issues. It is advisable to have someone to assist you while attempting an advanced posture for the first time.

No tight outfits

When practicing yoga, avoid wearing shoes or clothes that are too tight. Tight clothes might hinder rib cage and lung movement, resulting in imperfect breathing.

Shower

Showering after a sweaty workout is essential. But do not shower right away; instead, leave your body to dry before taking a shower.

Yoga during menstruation

When you are menstruating, avoid the feet up or inverse postures. During your periods, do some simple relaxation and breathing exercises.

No exercise after a yoga session

It is not recommended that you do any high-intensity workouts after your yoga session. If you are going to do yoga, do your workout before your yoga.

Water

Avoid drinking too much water in between yoga sessions. To quench your thirst, you can take a few drinks in between. Too much water may result in heaviness and make your practice difficult.
