These latter remarks were in reference to the article Stratton wrote for the Telegraph in which she outlined possible “micro steps” people could follow to reduce their environmental impact. Her recommendations included the purchase of shower gel as a cardboard-wrapped bar, the refrigeration of half-used loaves of bread instead of throwing them out, and last but not least, refraining from rinsing plates before putting them in a dishwasher.
Although these comments prompted widespread criticism, she did admit that these steps on their own could not stop climate change, although they could contribute to minimising the crisis. She added that these recommendations were particularly made for those who found the idea of combating the global crisis “too much and too overwhelming to process”.
“You will have a net zero strategy from us before Cop26. You’ll have a series of strategies from us in the next few months. We are doing the heavy lifting. What I’m trying to do is speak to people who may not be doing anything,” the COP26 spokesperson noted.
