Gunther is the new WWW World Heavyweight Champion

UK (Commonwealth) _ In order to take the title of WWE World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER defeated Damian Priest. Priest struck the South of Heaven, at which point Finn Balor intervened and placed GUNTHER’s leg on the rope.

Priest was enraged by what Dominick Mysterio had done earlier in the evening. He consequently yelled at Finn Balor behind closed doors before saying he was sorry. When Balor entered the ring late in Priest’s fight against GUNTHER, it seemed as though everything had been fixed.

Following his leadership of a premier heel stable, Damian Priest has emerged as a promising babyface. With tensions with Finn Balor, Priest’s days as a Judgment Day member are undoubtedly limited. Given that GUNTHER is a -300 favorite, Given that Gunther is Austrian, there’s a fair probability the previous record-breaking Intercontinental champion will storm into his native Berlin, Germany, for Bash in Berlin.

Priest is abiding by a condition that no Judgment Day member will intervene on his behalf for the second consecutive PLE. Priest is beloved by fans but has alienated his heel stable due to his unwavering desire to win bouts individually. However, more was required for this conventional heel vs. heel neighboring feud to match some of the all-time builds on this card. GUNTHER and Priest had no intention of merely battling for the belt they both desired, like Punk vs. McIntyre and Rhea vs. Liv did. There has to be more.

It took Priest and GUNTHER just a few weeks to develop a fierce rivalry that quickly turned into a discussion about class and how both used their resources—or lack thereof—to become a WWE Superstar.

I’m necessary for the World Heavyweight Championship because of this. In a promotional video, GUNTHER talked about the “fragile egos” of the previous world champions and aimed to build a new peak.

While Damian Priest rightfully bears that burden, his foundation is beginning to crumble and all of the hard work he put into realizing his ambition is crumbling in front of him. It’s unfortunate. In a sport where there was no dominant figure, I perceived an opening. “WWE was forced to call my name,” GUNTHER stated in a segment on July 8. I didn’t need them; they required me.

In a face-to-face promo, Priest punched back, saying that GUNTHER was simply in it for the cash. We don’t need you here if this isn’t your dream and you’re simply here to be paid. I don’t care, guy, even though I know you’re good. Priest remarked, “I deserve this.”

“Your heart is absent from you. To GUNTHER’s condescending remarks about Priest coming from nothing, Priest said, “You don’t know what it feels like to fight for everything you have.” Priest referred to GUNTHER as a dull, haughty, arrogant thug as the promo came to a conclusion.

Going forward, there were two betrayals on Judgment Day, which left Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley outside looking in without any world titles to their names. After beating Damian Priest, the WWE’s longest-reigning intercontinental and United Kingdom champions, The Ring General and King of the Ring Gunther, have now added another honor to their resume.

Gunther criticized Priest before SummerSlam, calling him a piece of street filth unworthy of such a famous title. Priest disproved that by taking the battle to Gunther, and if Finn Balor hadn’t turned on his buddy, he could have even won the duel. Balor evidently screwed over Priest on purpose when she put Gunther’s foot on the ropes to assist break up a pinfall during tonight’s second split of The Judgment Day.

Summer Slam will be remembered as the collapse of The Judgment Day, or, at the very least, as the evening when Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley lost their championship matches and were expelled from the organization. It will also be remembered as the beginning of Gunther’s reign as champion, and given his past performance, who knows when another person will be carrying the gold!

How do you feel about Gunther being the new heavyweight champion of the world? Who do you believe will win the belt over him?

Under the ownership of TKO Group Holdings, this was the first SummerSlam to be hosted following the September 2023 merger of WWE with the Endeavor affiliate Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). There were seven matches played at the tournament. In the SmackDown main event, Cody Rhodes beat Solo Sikoa in a Bloodline Rules match to reclaim the Undisputed WWE Championship.
