Islamabad, Pakistan (CWBN)_ The election for the “provisional province” of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) concluded on Sunday (15th Nov). The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party (under the leadership of PM Imran Khan) won the highest number of seats.

Unofficial results indicate that the PTI holds up to nine seats, seven are held by independent candidates and four are held by the PPP. The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has only managed to get hold of about two seats.

It has been reported that the Secretary General of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Nayyar Bukhari has called for a disqualification of all PTI candidates on grounds of alleged election rigging. However, the allegations have been rejected by the Pakistani Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Chairperson of the PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated today on Twitter that the election was fraudulent. “My election has been stolen. I will be joining the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in their protest shortly,” he tweeted. Maryam Nawaz, leader of the PML-N and daughter of Nawaz Sharif, reinforced the claims made by her political allies, noting that even after the PTI had rigged the election using state assets, they were still unable to achieve a majority in GB.

“Not getting a simple majority for PTI is a shameful defeat,” stated Maryam Nawaz.
