The United States and Iran have exchanged military strikes after a helicopter incident near the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions rose quickly after the United States blamed Iran for shooting down an American military helicopter. Washington said it carried out airstrikes on Iranian targets on Tuesday evening. US Central Command described the operation as a proportional response. Iran responded by saying it struck two US-linked bases in the region.
One base was in Bahrain, and another was reported in Jordan. Kuwait’s military said it intercepted incoming attacks during the escalation. US officials said fighter jets hit air defense systems, radar sites, and control stations near the Strait. Iran said US strikes damaged infrastructure, including communication towers and water tanks.
The United States confirmed that two pilots were rescued after the helicopter crash. It also said a sea drone was used in the rescue operation for the first time publicly. Iran has denied responsibility for the downed aircraft, according to reports. Both sides traded further threats as diplomatic tensions increased in the region. Iran warned that foreign forces near its borders remain at risk of retaliation. Officials in Tehran said foreign troops should leave the region to reduce danger.
The US president said the downed helicopter was on patrol in a strategic shipping lane. He stated that both pilots survived the incident without any injuries. He also said the United States would respond strongly to any attacks on its forces. Congressional leaders in Washington supported the decision to strike Iranian targets. They said the response was necessary despite concerns about further escalation. Iran’s foreign minister warned that no attack will go unanswered.
He added that foreign military presence in the region increases the risk of conflict. Iran’s negotiators stated that they prefer diplomacy, but they also have the option of retaliation. They warned that breaking agreements would lead to a different response. The crisis came alongside Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon on the same day. Iran had warned such attacks would bring retaliation. Israel and Iran had recently exchanged fire before a short truce.
Trump said both Israel and Iran should stop fighting immediately. He said continued violence could damage ongoing diplomatic talks. He claimed a possible ceasefire deal could be reached within days. The Strait of Hormuz was expected to reopen if tensions ease and a deal is reached soon. Both sides remain on alert as the situation continues to develop rapidly in the region today. Talks continue amid rising tensions there.
