High Court ruling to have implications on at-risk Afghans and anyone seeking NZ visa

WELLINGTON (CU)_In August this year, the Foreign Ministry of New Zealand announced that it has closed resettlement applications for Afghans who worked with New Zealand troops during their occupation in Afghanistan. This left about 70 individuals at risk of being targeted by the Taliban, owing to their family ties with New Zealand-based Afghans who have worked for NZ defence forces several years ago. Accordingly, 18 Afghans residing in the Trans-Tasman nation brought legal proceedings against the government of New Zealand for its alleged inaction in processing visas from Afghanistan, claiming the delays were putting the lives of their family members at risk.
